The Latest from the world of TRP.

Second Chance Hiring Panel

In March, we invited a panel of experts to discuss “Why Second Chance Hiring is Good for Business and Community.” Our very own Dwight Tostenson hosted the discussion which included valuable insights from Jeff Korzenik (Chief Investment Strategist and Author of Untapped Talent), Paul Schnell (Commissioner of the Minnesota Department of Corrections), and Odell Wilson (Supervising U.S. Probation and Pre-trial Services Officer and TRP Board Member). These expert voices made it clear that Second Chance Hiring is not just a hot topic, it’s a viable employment reality.

Partner Guide

After months of work, April saw the launch of our Mentor/Employment Partner Guide. Built entirely online and purposefully divided into blog-like articles, this resource acts as an accessible, yet comprehensive, “crash course” for individuals and businesses to explore our unique mentor/employer program. Prospective partners complete the 4 chapter course at their own pace and can submit an introductory application right on the site. This Guide was and is a major milestone for TRP as it allows us to educate and onboard Mentor/Employment Partners faster and in greater numbers.

Joey Meatballs

Our Board Chair and favorite pasta maker, Joshua Hedquist, is launching a fast casual Italian kitchen called Joey Meatballs. Launching soon at The Market at Malcolm Yards in Minneapolis, JM will serve fresh pasta bowls crafted from locally-sourced ingredients while giving back to the community—including the efforts of The Redemption Project. We had the opportunity to attend April and May “pop-ups” at various restaurants where JM’s menu was previewed and perfected. In addition to the good company and delicious pasta, TRP’s mission was being lived out as chef-in-training Daniel, TRP Fellow and mentee/employee of Joshua, was hard at work in the kitchen.
